It’s that time of year again with the rains here, rice is already planted and growing. It grows fast too!
Every year in Panamà fincas produce some of the best rice in the world, and with enough rain to do it, Panamàs bumper crop of rice and corn and melons is a site to see. I was impressed last year seeing how much rice comes off a field like this.
Although rice was introduced by the Spaniards, commercial rice growers were not developing until the 1950’s, and really took off in the 70’s and 80’s due to reform. The traditional farmer is still cultivating rice by hand all over Panamà, and you can see more of that in my blog “Junta de Arroz”. Pretty cool. I love this place!
