Banana Buds

This was fun to watch the past couple of days. These seed pods sprout and then these banana buds drop out and hopefully grow full size.

These are common in about every yard and roadside here in Panama. These here were gifted from neighbors last year about this time. When ripe you cut the bunch out of the tree and then cut down the tree. Every plant has juveniles growing beside it and they will be next years crop.

It is best to cut off or dig away and plant the extras juveniles. That is how to increase your orchard too.

There really is an abundance of great food here, and much of it grows with little or no maintainance. I have 25 of these and will probably do another 25 plants to give me fresh bananas and platanos year round. i love this place!
