Panama Livestock

Here we see animals do some amazing everyday things. Horses and cattle routinely ride in the back of a pickup. Sometimes with a cage but other times with nothing. I have seen as many as 5 cows in the back of a toyota truck like this.

I think in the states maybe we baby our animals a bit more than needed.

Panama’s Huge Trees

I found this tree out past Cambutal, Panama. Not sure what to call it but is every bit as impressive as anything in Washington. Wow!

image

I hear this tree is used for paper and grows very fast. The hillside was scattered with these behemouths and the big ones are only found on the preserves now. Sounds familiar.

Panama Beaches

Panama beaches are spectacular and as private as anywhere I have seen. These 2 photos from Cambutal are taken Saturday at noon. We saw 2 people all day and they were just walking through. He water is terrific and there is a really nice resort at Hotel Cambutal. Good food and beautiful rooms right on the beach with surfboards and other activities.

Changa

My neighbors have been magically turning sacks of corn into Bollos and Changa. Changa is my new favorite Panama meal. Some of the local Changa is still baked over wood fire and smoke. ¡Que Rico! Panama is full of great cooks and food. Never thought I could gain weight here but I’m doing it.  Grind your corn and mix to the image

Right consistency, then cook it on banana leaves in a skillet until done as you see. Very healthy and delicious. I love this place!

Tropical Rains and Iguanas

As I sit here today hearing the rain pound on the roof I can’t help but feel a little pleased with my situation. It has been a pretty mild rainy season, and, as I like to say, we have had a nice summer this winter. The rains did show up this morning and the runoff around the house gives the feeling of a boat moving though the jungle. Moving water. Beautiful! The power flickered off for a short time and now I am looking outside at the wonderful tropical rain. Hard, driving rain with lightning and thunder claps in the distance. Ninin and Suny brought over a new pet iguana this morning, and that brings a little variety to our life in the jungle. They are interesting creatures. They scramble for their lives ferociously until you catch them, then they are completely docile and tame. This is our 2nd iguana and we will enjoy him a while then set him free. Every day here is a little different and we never know who is going to show up, or with what they might bring to our door. But today, only 2 visitors as the rains never let up and I napped. A lot!

Sombrero Update

Juliana has a lot of the pieces for my new sombrero. Here she is pictured with Asa wearing a couple of other orders.
The handful of straw is slowly making its way into a hat. Very cool.

Julianna finished my sombrero. This beautiful lady worked so hard on my hat, then she gave it to me. Recall. What can I say. The people here bless my life.

Here is the finished model. Wow!
